| Your personal background. |
I am a Computer/Network technician for a large library system in west Michigan, USA. I am 39 and have been working and playing on computers since I was first introduced to terminals and mainframes when I was just 11 years old, so it is hard for me to imagine life without computers. I suppose I always wondered if there would not someday be a way to network them all together to accomplish great things, and now I see that Distributed Computing does just that! :)
In my free time I also enjoy bicycling, bowling, and metal-detecting; on March 21st of 2009 I will be getting married to the love of my life!! So I suppose I will then have all kinds of other favorite activities! ;)
I would like to thank all of the wonderful friends and contacts I have made while a member of TeAm AnandTech. I have learned much about Distributed Computing from them, as well how to play a good game of UT and how IRC works. ;) It has been a great time - I look forward to many more years as a TeAm mate! :) |

I taught myself chess after my dad stopped playing checkers with me; I cannot say as I blame him though - no fun to lose most of the time. ;) I formed a chess club in middle and high school as a way to learn strategies and meet others interested in the game. I am not a really good chess player, although I did finish in the Top 10 in a couple small tournaments many years ago.
Aside from the stories I have read of Grand Masters playing against computers specifically built around chess, I really had not considered that there might be Distributed Computing applications for the game, so my interest in this project is mostly just curiosity; I will be interested to know what it is that the project is trying to accomplish. |
