The current problem is that the engine doesn't deliver the pgn format we need to publish the games. Therefore I convert the engine output manually to pgn and that takes time. Of course we work on a converting tool to avoid that.

Wow. I wonder if the converting tool would already be ready had you used your time in developing that instead of manually converting the 112 games. :O If I were you, I wouldn't manually convert one single game anymore.

On average, how long does it take to complete one game (in days)? How many games are there running simultaneously? Why are the games published in chunks (as in 12 new games today)?

It's different: in maximum a game can take: 250 half moves (a very long game) X 12 hours (max. dead line for a single w/u) = 3000 hours (17 weeks).

But this calculation is not realistic.

More realistic is: 180 half moves x 2,5 hours = 540 hours (<3 weeks).

The current problem is that the engine doesn't deliver the pgn format we need to publish the games. Therefore I convert the engine output manually to pgn and that takes time. Of course we work on a converting tool to avoid that.

Currently some 100's of games are running in parallel.

I guess nearly 700-800 games are ready to publish but I'm not a fast converting tool. ;-)

Of course chess players are highly welcome on this project. But we don't have the money to advertise active on chess sites.

And of course it would only make sense to advertise for a productive project.
If you advertise for something you should have it work finally ;)

Please can you advise what the numbers mean in the work unit titles. Eg. chess960_xxx_yyy_z, ie what is x, y & z?

x = number of the game
y = half move in this game
z = counter of the user for this half move (replica is 5 currently) (0..4 usually)

I'm puzzled as to why I would receive zero credit for some WUs. eg. 238199, 238198, 238195 and others. The WU was in on time and was successful. The other results in these WUs all received some credit. If there's something I'm doing wrong please advise.

Credit 0 means the host didn't give back a valid result. That happens sometimes by various reasons. It's nor easy to check all these circustances. But it should not hapen very often.

Will we see the outcomes of the games which we are playing at the moment? Can I see the outcomes of the games which I've played a part in processing?

Of course all played games we will publish on www.Chess-960.org. The results per position you can see here.
Currently we don't have the possibility to watch the games on time. In order to do so we need a format conversion which isn't ready yet.

How many moves or half-moves do each WU process?

Exactly one half move per w/u.

Of course chess players are highly welcome on this project. But we don't have the money to advertise active on chess sites.

On Einstein & Seti sites, credit is now determined by the server before the WUs are distributed which means I'll receive a fixed & same amount of credit for each WU I crunch for them - will this work here?

SETI and Einstein do FLOPS counting - the client counts the operations it does and reports this to the server. This is not the same as a pre-determined amount fixed at the server.

Will we get regular updates or just occassional updates on the results received so far?

Would you advertise this project on chess based websites to get more users? I'm sure they'll be many chess players out there who'd be willing to give this project a try.

Sorry for all the questions. I wonder if FAQ section will work.

I wish you good luck with this project. It'll be interesting to see how it works out long term.
