As I left mine for a few hours whilst I was busy on the other machine, I could not get any work. So I had to reset the program, so what is the answer to this.

Ah, you want an answer???

The answer is, "It depends." :-)

Interesting. I just got another one. When the "Send Error Report" window popped up I left it there. In fact it's still on this machine.

For just short of 5 minutes all BOINC activity stopped but then it started up again. Here's the log:

I still am getting this problem. It is still asking to report to Microsoft, thought the problem was fixed.

Same here.

It doesn't seem to stop other apps permanently. After about 5 minutes it appears to time out and then the next app in the queue starts up.

Well v1.23 is still popping up the windows dialog box resulting is other projects not running until I click the button. Looking at my event viewer I see the following:

Faulting application chess960_1.23_windows_intelx86.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module chess960_1.23_windows_intelx86.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000edbb.

OK, it seems that this problem has been fixed in the BOINC cvs, so I'm updating my code now and will try to compile and release an updated version today. Stay tuned :)

Simultaneously that is.

Just my 2 cents.

Message 1131 - Posted 5 Aug 2006 16:30:27 UTC - in response to Message ID 1128.

I merged that.

What means program crash ? Only the chess application crashed or the whole BOINC client ?

The errors from the other users were also "program crashs" in sense, that the Windows OS came up with an pop up window (not a BOINC message).

Therefore I merged it. Sorry for that.

imho you have program crashes AND calculation errors.

This thread was about calculatione errors, and mine was about program crashes.

program crash:
Shows an error box, that (if you have Visual Studio installed) displayed a dialogbox that asks if you want to debug the 'crashed/malformed' application. Otherwise it will display a box saying: Problem has occured, do you want to report it?

calculation error:
Gives an error in Boinc. Shows up at the result of the workunit. Does not shows an error dialogbox in Windows and is only logged in Boinc

I think this thread had both kinds of errors.

The original post was about an "illegal operation" message. I guess that probably fits your "calculation error" definition.

I probably erred when I commented on a different bug, the kind that the OS wants to report, in the same thread.

Sorry for having created some confusion.

What good will it do to report it to Bill? He has stepped down as head honcho of Macro-rip-off... opps, MicroSoft. Yes, I know, he is still actively a part of MS.

Just a little note:
I meant a complete crash of the program. Not a message in BOINC. (boinc keeps running, but the chess game keeps popping up error boxes). Seems like its only with certain units. Haven't seen it since.

My last work unit did exactly the same - AMD64/3500+

Exit Code -1073741811 (0xffffffffc000000d)

Looks like a work unit error possibly.

I just noticed that there were 5 machines with the same exit code working on the same work unit.

I notice i'm using: chess960_1.19_windows_intelx86.exe

Question:
Is it calling specific intel cpu functions, that my AMD cpu hasn't, that is causing the crash?

Couldn't find more bug reports like this. Need more info, shout! :)

In the meantime (until this gets solved) I have suspended this project.

Regards
Gideon

I've also had a couple of errors on my laptop from Chess. They're the kind that pop up and ask you whether to report it to MS.

I apologize that I don't have the details on it at this point. Life is a little hectic at the moment. I'll try to write everything down the next time it happens.

OK, it's happening now on another machine.

"chess960_1.19_windows_intel86.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

"Error signature
szAppName: chess960_1.19_windows_intelx86.exe szAppVer: 0.0.0.0
szModName: {same as above}"

I still haven't replied to the "Send Error Report" message but after about 5 minutes chess960 croaked.

I'll get the log to you in a minute.
