You was clear. There are plans to upgrade the server but no timeframe.
Chess960 on win64 should be running as Anonymous_platform with the files from your website. ;)

Heh. I never got that to work properly. Maybe I will try again sometime.

Hi zombie67, you should give them a try. The 3 quads running under vista 64 are doing very fine with your files and the quad under winxp64 also. Only once I had a problem installing them, but that was because of a download problem (one of the files was missing then). All other attempts were successful at once.
Thanks again for hosting them.

Sorry, no news from the admin. Some of the last units had a missing argument or a false position. Sometimes the app freezes or errored out with "Maximum elapsed time exceeded" depended of the game position.
New units comes within the next hour.

[edit]
New work!

So, someone can issue work. Great! Can that someone please update the server? It is so old, it won't send the win32 tasks to win64 machines.

Hey, one thing at a time, don't want to stress the admins now do we :)

I will do my best and talk with the admin at we, hopefully. ;)

Any news? Please?

Rytis: chess960 has started sending work again
Rytis: they contacted me asking how to get 32bit apps sent to 64bit hosts
Rytis: because they won't update server software
Rytis: which is from 2006
nicolas: that's ridiculous
nicolas: tell them to upgrade or I will try to hack them

...and you think that would be helpfully? If you are really willingly to help and have the knowledge about the things Rytis talked about, look at the links-page. Catch the email-addy from the admin and drop him a line about your help.

Same way as it was a long time ago.
Every week or so someone has to kick the validator.

Please, anyone who can kick, kick it!

Win XP Pro 32bit gets this:

19/07/2009 12:53:35 AM chess960@home alpha Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
19/07/2009 12:53:35 AM chess960@home alpha Requesting new tasks
19/07/2009 12:53:35 AM chess960@home alpha update requested by user
19/07/2009 12:53:41 AM chess960@home alpha Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
19/07/2009 12:53:41 AM chess960@home alpha Message from server: No work sent
19/07/2009 12:53:41 AM chess960@home alpha Message from server: (there was work but it was committed to other platforms)

The units are ever distributed over all platforms for this project, that means you will get new units if some linux-hosts fetch for work.

I am spoke with the admin and the conversation was very friendly. His situation does not changed in the middletime, means working, working and working. But i am waiting for further emails to bring the project back, hopefully. Please be aware, some things could not be changed:

  • freezing wu
  • problems on multicore

These problems are multiply posted in this forum. I do not know where the problem in the actually app is and as said as before, i am no programmer. Therefor the project has two new problems:

  1. need the assistance from a programmer
  2. must be payed for the work

...and both needs more time and money.

[editing]
Don't be irritated about the multiply edits, the forum-sw is not the newest and doesn't have a preview. ;)
